| Friday, June 24, 2011 Squamish Sikh Community Street Parade - June 25 from 10AM to 2PMby Jasmine Henczel on Fri, Jun, 24, 2011 02:52 PM
Hello all,
WHAT: Sikh Community Street Parade
WHEN: Saturday June 25 - 10:00AM till 2:00PM
WHERE: Downtown Squamish
An amazing event is taking place on Saturday June 25 in downtown Squamish. The Squamish Sikh Society would like to invite people to join them at this colourful event where they will be commemorating the martyrdom of the Fifth Sikh Guru, Guru Arjun Dev Ji. There will be a Guru Ka Langar (free food for everybody on the parade route) plus a short reading & verbal presentations at the pavilion in downtown Squamish. This is definitely one of my favourite events in Squamish and I look forward to seeing you all there! Friday, October 29, 2010 Update On Last Night's Squamish Oceanfront Meetingby Jasmine Henczel on Fri, Oct, 29, 2010 02:37 PM Hello,
I would like to send out a BIG thank you to all of you who came out to the Oceanfront Development Meeting last night! It was an incredible show of community members....probably the best turn out I have seen yet.
To recap for those of you who were there, and to bring those that weren't up to speed, this was the last public meeting before the Mayor and Council vote next week on the First and Second Reading for the Oceanfront Development. If the Mayor and Council vote to move the process forward, and from what I gather, the public support and the overall feeling is that this First and Second Reading will pass....then, there will be one more and FINAL meeting. This meeting is scheduled to take place at the end of November - tentatively, November 29th. This would be the absolutely last meeting which would be held prior to the Third Reading for the Oceanfront Development. At which point, if the Third Reading passes the Oceanfront Development gets the go ahead. Very exciting! This means that as early as this coming Spring/Summer we could see some digging happening on the Oceanfront to begin the first phase...the Park.
If you have not seen the 9 minute video that shows the vision of the Oceanfront Development then you should check it out. There was a second video shown last night which is a 3 minute video. I believe it will be loaded on the SODC website sometime very soon. You can visit both of these videos and learn more about the process and such at www.squamishoceanfront.com
There were some great comments and great questions last night. Thanks again to everyone that came out!
Regards,
Jasmine Tuesday, October 26, 2010 Squamish Oceanfront Sub-Area Plan Open House. There has been a lot of talk and questions over the past few months about 'What is happening with the Squamish Oceanfront Development?' Fortunately, there is a public meeting being held this week that you can attend to learn more about the proposed plan and how it is coming along. Time is running out - If you have not been to one of the Oceanfront Development meetings then you should probably make it out to this one. From what I understand, this is the last 'public' meeting that will take place. There will be an opportunity for you to listen to what the SODC (Squamish Oceanfront Development Corporation) has to say, take a look at some pictures/drawings and then there will be time for an open mic should you want to comment.

The Open House takes place at the Sea to Sky Hotel Ballroom at 40330 Tantalus Way from 6:30 – 9 p.m. with multi-media presentations beginning at 7 p.m.

Monday, August 10, 2009 Getting To Know Squamish Part 5: Dentvilleby Jasmine Henczel on Mon, Aug, 10, 2009 07:52 PM Familiarize yourself with Squamish
Part 5: Dentville
Dentville is considered by most a very much up and coming area due to its prime location and small, quaint neighborhood feeling. Known for its spacious building lots, sunny location and walking distance to downtown Squamish, Dentville is home to many character and heritage style homes as it was one of the first areas to be built in Squamish.
This community is conveniently located only a 5 to 10 minute walk to the south to downtown and is also within walking distance of shopping, cafes, and so on, to the north. This area is very appealing to many people that prefer to have amenities and work opportunities close by but not directly in their backyard. Dentville is also within walking distance to the local high school, an elementary school and youth centre, making this an excellent area for families. There is also an extensive nature trail network which connects this community to the schools.
Dentville has undergone many changes in recent years with a lot of of the small and run down ‘old-timer’ homes having been completely renovated or, in some cases, demolished and a new home put up in their place. Prices in this area have gone up in recent years but are still some of the most affordable in Squamish. Only time will tell if prices will stay this way in this area.
For more details on available homes in this area or anywhere in Squamish, please contact me personally. I would be happy to show you around! You can reach me at 604.815.7766 or by email at Jasmine@AgentJazz.ca Tuesday, July 21, 2009 Familiarize Yourself with Squamish Part 3: Downtown Squamishby Jasmine Henczel on Tue, Jul, 21, 2009 12:50 PM Familiarize Yourself with Squamish
Part 3: Downtown Squamish
Probably the most up and coming area that Squamish has to offer! While it is going to take some time for the transformation to take place the wheels are already in motion. In a few years when the Oceanfront Development has progressed and downtown becomes ‘the place to live’ one could speculate that there could be a huge population surge in the downtown area. At first glance, one might think that downtown Squamish is fairly quiet and sleepy. However, with community events, cultural festivals, the weekend Farmers Market, the Art Walk and much, much more, the downtown area offers a sampling of what is to come for Squamish.
Many new master planned condo and town home developments have already begun and it is just a matter of time before downtown is really bustling! Downtown Squamish will one day be home to new marinas, plazas, shopping, ocean front board walks and so on. Go to www.createtheoceanfront.ca to learn more about the vision for this area.
Currently, detached homes in downtown Squamish are some of the most affordable homes in Squamish. Some homes have been purchased as investments while others, that see the potential of downtown, have purchased homes to renovate and are waiting it out so they can be a part of this soon-to-be incredibly vibrant area. Downtown Squamish will be transformed into something very special; it is just a matter of time.
For more details on homes available in this area or other areas of Squamish, feel free to contact me personally. I would be happy to show you around! You can reach me at 604.815.7766 or by email at Jasmine@AgentJazz.ca
