Hello all,
WHAT: Sikh Community Street Parade
WHEN: Saturday June 25 - 10:00AM till 2:00PM

An amazing event is taking place on Saturday June 25 in downtown Squamish. The Squamish Sikh Society would like to invite people to join them at this colourful event where they will be commemorating the martyrdom of the Fifth Sikh Guru, Guru Arjun Dev Ji. There will be a Guru Ka Langar (free food for everybody on the parade route) plus a short reading & verbal presentations at the pavilion in downtown Squamish. Hello All,
Squamish Fire Rescue took on a new recruitment class of Volunteers Fire Fighters in January of 2011. After 6 months of intense training the new Volunteer Fire Fighters (including myself and my husband Buzz) became official members of Squamish Fire Rescue. The graduation ceremony was held at Hall 1 on Monday June 20, 2011.
I want to extend a congratulations to all of my fellow new recruits on a job well done. Also a huge thanks to all of those, volunteer and career members, in the Squamish Fire Department that helped to train us. We look forward to serving the community over the years to come! Buckle Up Bears. A Free Car Seat Check
I am involved with an event which is being held at the Squamish Adventure Centre from 9:00AM to 1:00PM tomorrow - Saturday, June 18th.
This is a FREE EVENT where you can get your car seat checked with a certified specialist. Last year a similar event was held in the Sea-To-Sky Corridor and it was found that 92% of car seats were installed incorrectly. Across Canada the failure rate for car seats is over 70%. This is simple and quick thing that you can do to keep your child safe. Make sure to bring your child so that the certified technician can ensure the seat is safe and fits your child appropriately.
There will also be a Fire Truck on site for the kids to check out!
Hope to see you there!

WHEN: Friday, June 17
TIME: 2:00PM to 6:00PM
WHERE: The Mountain Orthotics new office is located beside London Drugs and above Samurai Sushi on the 2nd floor in the Garibaldi Village.
A good friend of mine is an amazing Orthodontist in town - Dr. Gina Ball of Mountain Orthodontics. She is holding an Open House today, Friday June 17, where you can bring your children for a Free Exam. Her new office is located beside London Drugs and above Samurai Sushi on the 2nd floor.
There will also be a chance to win prizes, grab goody bags for everyone and, of course, enjoy a snack. I can tell you from experience that she is fantastic. I am a patient :) I have Lingual Braces (braces on the backside of my teeth.)
It's recommended that children be seen by an orthodontist by the age of 7. At this age the adult teeth are beginning to erupt and future problems can be identified and, if necessary, treated to prevent more complicated problems from developing.
FREE DRAWS
- Oral B electric toothbrush
- Records appointment - $450 value. For those that could benefit from braces they can enter the draw which includes the models, photos, and x-rays required to develop the treatment plan. It also includes the consultation to discuss the problems and the treatment plan!

Friday, November 26, 2010 2010 REALTORS Care® Blanket Drive - November 29 - December 6by Jasmine Henczel on Fri, Nov, 26, 2010 02:35 PM Blanket Drive Gears Up for Cold, Wet Winter
November 2010 - With predictions for this winter to be the coldest and wettest in 50 years, and the number of homeless people on the rise in the Lower Mainland, the need for the annual REALTORS Care® Blanket Drive could be at its highest in its 16-year history.
The REALTORS Care® Blanket Drive runs November 29 to December 6 at over 100 real estate offices across the region, collecting blankets, bedding and warm and waterproof clothing for the homeless and working poor. Over 30 charities from Whistler to Chilliwack receive, on average, more than 4,000 bags of gently-used or new items donated by REALTORS®, their clients and the public.
Earlier this year, the City of Vancouver announced that the homeless count in Vancouver has increased 12 per cent since 2008. Also, meteorologists are calling for a La Niña weather cycle this winter, meaning colder-than-normal temperatures and heavier precipitation.
Donations to the REALTORS Care® Blanket Drive stay within the communities in which they are donated, or if the volumes are too large, go to charities in greatest need in neighbouring communities.
DONATION PICK UP: If you want to donate please feel free to contact me and I will personally come to your home and pick up your donations for you!
The REALTORS Care® Blanket Drive Story
Way back in 1995, some caring REALTORS® in Vancouver observed the homeless situation in the city’s eastside and said to themselves, we’ve got to do something.
They put out an appeal to their fellow colleagues for warm blankets and coats and collected 600 bags of donations specifically dedicated to Vancouver’s homeless in the downtown core.
That single act of kindness has blossomed into one of the largest annual collections of warm clothing and blankets, helping homeless people and the working poor in every single community in the Lower Mainland.
Fifteen years later, thousands of REALTORS® from Whistler to Chilliwack have collected more than 27,000 bags of donations. Each year, more than 75 amazingly dedicated members actually pick-up and deliver all the donations, and well over 100 real estate offices in the Lower Mainland act as collection depots.
The annual REALTORS Care® Drive now collects an astonishing 4,000 plus bags of warm, winter items on behalf of dozens of local charities. Friday, October 29, 2010 Update On Last Night's Squamish Oceanfront Meetingby Jasmine Henczel on Fri, Oct, 29, 2010 02:37 PM Hello,
I would like to send out a BIG thank you to all of you who came out to the Oceanfront Development Meeting last night! It was an incredible show of community members....probably the best turn out I have seen yet.
To recap for those of you who were there, and to bring those that weren't up to speed, this was the last public meeting before the Mayor and Council vote next week on the First and Second Reading for the Oceanfront Development. If the Mayor and Council vote to move the process forward, and from what I gather, the public support and the overall feeling is that this First and Second Reading will pass....then, there will be one more and FINAL meeting. This meeting is scheduled to take place at the end of November - tentatively, November 29th. This would be the absolutely last meeting which would be held prior to the Third Reading for the Oceanfront Development. At which point, if the Third Reading passes the Oceanfront Development gets the go ahead. Very exciting! This means that as early as this coming Spring/Summer we could see some digging happening on the Oceanfront to begin the first phase...the Park.
If you have not seen the 9 minute video that shows the vision of the Oceanfront Development then you should check it out. There was a second video shown last night which is a 3 minute video. I believe it will be loaded on the SODC website sometime very soon. You can visit both of these videos and learn more about the process and such at www.squamishoceanfront.com
There were some great comments and great questions last night. Thanks again to everyone that came out!
Regards,
Jasmine Tuesday, October 26, 2010 Squamish Oceanfront Sub-Area Plan Open House. There has been a lot of talk and questions over the past few months about 'What is happening with the Squamish Oceanfront Development?' Fortunately, there is a public meeting being held this week that you can attend to learn more about the proposed plan and how it is coming along. Time is running out - If you have not been to one of the Oceanfront Development meetings then you should probably make it out to this one. From what I understand, this is the last 'public' meeting that will take place. There will be an opportunity for you to listen to what the SODC (Squamish Oceanfront Development Corporation) has to say, take a look at some pictures/drawings and then there will be time for an open mic should you want to comment.

When: October 28th, 2010 from 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm Where: Sea to Sky Hotel Note: Presentation at 7:00pm with an open mic to follow
